Q: Why am I seeing inconsistency in the results?

A: Locating the correct Brachioradialis (Extensor Digitorium) muscle and hitting this muscle correctly during the testing procedure is critical to producing consistent and accurate results. This technique has to be mastered by the operator of the device.

 Q: What does Pre-Fire (PF) mean?

A: The time from hammer strike to initiation of the reflex response.

Q: What does Fire (F) mean?

A: Start to finish of reflex ARC

Q: What is the Fire-PreFire (F-PF) mean?

A: F-PF is the reflex difference in milliseconds between the Fire value and the Pre-Fire value with a normal target value of 52 � 137 msec.

Q: What is the Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) value?

A: There are no published norms. However, the average woman RMR is at approx. 2,250 cal/day & the average man RMR is at approx. 2,750 cal/day. You can add 250 cal/day for an over-weight person.

Q: What is the Hyper- Hypo- & normal thyroid values on the Thyroflex?

A: Normal thyroid function has a reflex value of F-PF in the range of 52-137 msec, values above 137 msec is considered Hypo, values below 52 msec is Hyper.

Q: What is the Symptom Sheet?

A: It is a tools used to screen patients for thyroid malfunction. Patient who scores 8 or more on the symptom sheet has potential risk of developing hypothyroid. We recommend patients be given this survey at front desk registration.

Q: What is the recommended dosage for hypothyroid?

A: Only a doctor can determine this. The information provided by the Thyroflex should be used as a tool, along with the patient�s RMR, thyroid symptom score, and blood test results to provide you, as physician, the necessary information to help you determine the appropriate dosage for the patient.

Q: How do I locate the Brachioradialis?

A: Dorsi Flex the hand and hold, wiggle the middle finger, locate the muscle group distal to the elbow crease on the forearm (2 fingers down), and mark the middle of the muscle belly.

Q: What is the correct way to place the band and inclinator box on the patient?

A: Ask the patient to make a letter �L� with their finger. Slip the band over the four digits leaving the thumb out and stopping at the crease of the thumb. Align the inclinometer box over the top of the middle finger and have the wire running down to the tip of the middle finger.

Q: How do I get the menu option field to populate when entering the patient info?

A: Double clicking on the required fields (i.e. birth date, weight, height, medication, dosage) will populate the menu options field on the right corner. Select the desired measurement (lbs, feet, mg) before entering the patient info.

Q: Where do I place the markers on the reflex curve?

A: Two markers are placed on each reflex curve. The first is placed at the beginning of the Fire interval (or at the end of the PF) and the second is place at the end of the Fire interval.

Q: How do you change the date format on the Thyroflex?

A: Thyroflex uses the PC configuration to display the date.  To change the computer, open the control panel under the start menu, and then click on the �Regional and Language� icon. Choose the appropriate Region & Language.

Q: How do I request for more tests on the Thyroflex?

A: It is an automatic and seamless process, as long as you are connected to the Internet.

Q: How come my Instruction Video is not working or does not play?

A: Double click on the word THYROFLEX at the intro screen. The instruction video is on title 1, which runs about 24 minutes long. If you still cannot view the video, check to make sure the file c:\programfiles\Nitek\Docs\Thyroflex\ThyroflexInstructionsV2\Video\VTS_01_1.VOB is there.

That file should be 1,048.404 kb in size.  If the file is missing, it can be downloaded from the internet on a secure website at http://www.thyroflex.com/tfinstvid.html. If the file is there, then we need to look at why Real Player or Media Player is not playing the video files.

A: The ACAM video has the full lecture given by Dr. Konrad Kail on how to manage sub-clinical hypothyroid.
